More Confirmation of What We Already Know About SugarThe Journal of Clinical Nutrition this month published a long article on the "Potential role of sugar (fructose) in the epidemic of hypertension, obesity and the metabolic syndrome, diabetes, kidney disease, and cardiovascular disease." The conclusion Scientists will criticize my not reading the entire article very carefully while enthusiastically endorsing its conclusions. In my defense, I state another fact that screams, "avoid sugar, especially high fructose corn syrup!" It's this: no, absolutely no, not any nutritional value in sugar of any kind. An ordinary "cola" has about 133 calories per 12 oz. serving, every single calorie coming from the sugar. It's more than difficult in today's America to take in the right nutrients without overloading the calories. Why make it impossible by ingesting junk like high fructose corn syrup?
