Keep It Real

This recent article from ScienceDaily reports on a study that correlates drinking as little as one soda a day with increased risk of heart decease.

"'In those who drink one or more soft drinks daily, there was an association of an increased risk of developing the metabolic syndrome.' Metabolic syndrome is a cluster of cardiovascular disease and diabetes risk factors including excess waist circumference, high blood pressure, elevated triglycerides, low levels of high-density lipoprotein (HDL "good" cholesterol) and high fasting glucose levels. The presence of three or more of the factors increases a person's risk of developing diabetes and cardiovascular disease."

The article noted that it didn't matter whether the sodas were sweetened with sugar or artificial sweeteners.

It illustrates our premise that if you need to drink something, drink something real. Coffee or tea, for example, have known nutrients and hundreds of other natural compounds that could turn out to be nutrients that we don't know about yet.

Sodas, on the other hand, are made with just a few chemicals. And we are pretty sure that they will not turn out to be nutritious ones.
